Jeff Cavers, La Riviere was elected president of the Manitoba Charolais Association at their Annual General Meeting held August 3 at Birtle. Hans Myhre, Dauphin was elected 1st-Vice President while Michael Hunter, Roblin fills the 2nd Vice-President position. Rae Trimble-Olson, Portage la Prairie remains as the Secretary-Treasurer. Breeder of the year went to Sunblade Charolais who hosted the event. A pen show was held, followed by awards, presentations and supper. Senior Grand Aggregate winners were Bret Marshall, Innisfail, AB & Kord Phillips, Waskatenau, AB & Shelby Evans, Kenaston, SK
Intermediate Grand Aggregate winners were Mason Beck, Milestone, SK & Cassidy Elder, Coronach, SK & Justin Harcourt, Quill Lake, SK
Junior Grand Aggregate winners were Morgan Debenham, Kennedy, SK & Kaycee Buchanan, Caronport, SK
Bret Hirsche of the Raymond 4-H Beef Club won Grand Champion steer at the Lethbridge (AB) 4-H Regional show June 7th & 8th in Lethbridge judged by Allen (Buck) Thompson. Bret’s steer weighed 1,490 lb and sold for $4.90/lb to Dr. Aaron Comba. Reserve Grand Champion steer of this 8 club, 80 head steer show was won by Ethan Carroll of the Readymade 4-H Multi Club. This steer weighed 1,416 lb and sold for $4.00/lb to DTR Services,CSN Kustom Auto and Country Commodities.
Kelly Howe, Moose Jaw, SK was re-elected president of the Saskatchewan Charolais Association at their Annual General Meeting held July 13th at Yellow Creek. Jordan Moore, Redvers was elected 1st Vice-President while Kurtis Phillips, Estevan fills the 2nd Vice-President position. Following the AGM a pen show was held at Creeks Edge Charolais, followed by awards presentations and supper. Complete details will be in the August issue of the Charolais Banner.
Chance Eiserman, Piapot, SK won Grand Champion steer at the Bear Creek 4-H Club Achievement day June 2nd in Piapot with his Charcross steer judged by Craig & Carrie Braun. At the district 10 Regional Fair this steer weighed 1,540 lb and sold for $2.10/lb to Maple Creek Endless Tubing. Paislee Wakelam also showed a Charcross steer in the Bear Creek show and at the regional he weighed 1,400 lb and sold for $2.20/lb to Joe & Evelyn Burgess & Burgess Trucking. These two youngsters also were honoured to receive the Arnal boys memorial bursary, in memory of the three brothers that died in two separate farm accidents in 2008 & 2014. Their business plan is to purchase two purebred Charolais heifers. They are very excited to start shopping for Charolais heifers, with their bursary funds and 4-H money.
Elaine Studer, of Virden, Manitoba beloved wife of Dale Studer and loving mother of Patricia, Cory, and Tyler; passed away at Virden Health Centre – Virden Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the age of 68 years. Dale’s dad Mel was a pioneer Charolais breeder with the herd name Keystone Charolais and Dale & Elaine ran their herd under D & E Polled Charolais in the ’70s and into the ’80s.
Funeral services will be held at Virden Legion Hall on Monday, July 15th at 2:00 p.m. A time of viewing and visitation will be held at G. R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel – Virden on Sunday, July 14th from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Interment will be in Virden Cemetery.
