KCH Queen Latifah 1T, sired by Crystal D Pierce 40P and her twin heifer calves by SRK Solid 12U were selected Supreme Champion at the Harding (MB) Fair, July 20th. This makes her eligible to go to the RBC Beef Supreme Challenge at Agribition. The female exhibited by KCH Charolais, Rapid City and Slack Farms, SD then won the Ultimate Supreme and $1,000 coming out over the Supreme Champion Bull, the Champion commercial cow-calf pair and Champion steer.

Riley Schweb of the Salmon Arm, BC 4-H Beef Club won Grand Champion steer honours with a buckskin Charcross steer at the Okanagan Stock Show in Armstrong July 10 -14, 2012. Beating out 46 other the steer weighed 1,275 lbs. and sold for $4.00/lb. to Riverside Meats, Salmon Arm.
LEJ Sweeps Heart of Canada Show
LEJ Charolais, Portage la Prairie won both Grands at this year’s Heart of Canada Show, June 9th at Lundar, MB. Judge Carman Jackson used LEJ Yaeger 109Y sired by Merit 8676U as Champion Bull and MRT York 101Y sired by SVS Nobleman 25N as Reserve. Grand Champion Female of this 12 head show was BDT Rio Yazman 9Y, sired by LT Rio Blanco 1234 P
2012 CCYA Conference and Show
The 2012 CCYA Conference and show was held July 9-13 in Olds,AB. Judge Duane Parsonage from Innisfail selected CML Pld Ginny 1X Exhibited by Megan McLeod as his Champion Purebred female. The reserve purebred female was an entry from Jade Marshall JIL Beauty Queen 7Y. The Champion Bull Calf was Charworth Bullet 29Z from Alex Shuttleworth. The Aggregate winners were JR. Brett Marshall Res JR. Calina Evans Int. Ch Ward Marshall Res. Int. Jade Marshall, SR Ch Autumn Jackson Res. Sr. Luke Marshall.
A white Charolais steer shown by Keegan Blehm, son of Jeff and Jackie Cavers of C2 Charolais, La Riviere beat out 18 other steers to win the Manitou, MB Interclub 4-H acheivement day. Keegan’s steer weighed 1450lbs and sold for $2.75 to A.R.K. New-Tech of Manitou. Mark Law of Cypress River was the judge.

Cassidy Serhienko, Maymont showed a tan Charcross steer out of a purebred Charolais female and the steer bull Highliner to Grand Champion at the Saskatoon (SK) Regional 4-H Show, July 9th. The steer weighing 1,356 lbs., was selected champion by Greg Krupka, and sold for $6/lb. to Prairieland Park, Saskatoon.
A purebred, white Charolais steer shown by Jorja Beck, Milestone beat out 158 steers at the Weyburn (SK) 4-H Regional Show, judged by Cam Sparrow, Vanscoy. This white steer weighing 1,380 lbs., sold for $5.50/lb. to Great Plains Ford, Weyburn. Watch for him at the Calgary Stampede Steer Show shown by Levi & Chance Jackson.
Former Charolette President passes
Cheryl Sim of Rosetown, SK passed away July 2 in Saskatoon Hospital after months in the hospital. Cheryl and her husband Gerald were longtime Charolais breeders under the name of Sim and Sons Charolais. She was president of the Canadian Charolettes for five years in the early 1990’s.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 6 at the Rosetown United Church, 118 – 2nd Ave East.
