Charolais Influence Steer wins McConnell 4-H Achievement

Myra Ramsey had Grand Champion Steer at the McConnell 4-H Beef Achievement Show, held June 13. Myra’s steer weighed 1298 lbs. and was also the best home raised steer and had the best rate of gain. The show was judged by Brennin Jack.

Charolais Influence Steer wins Whitewood

Haley Debenham had the Grand Champion  Steer at the Whitewood Regional Show on July 7. Judged by Joe Barnett & Aaron Birch, Hayley’s steer weighed 1620 lbs (ADG of 4.11) and sold for $3.40/lb to E Bourassa & Sons.

Charolais Influence Steer wins Rivers 4-H

Blake Airey exhibited the Grand Champion Steer at the Rivers & District 4-H Beef Club Achievement on July 6, judged by Mikyla Cliffe.  Simone (SEE-MOAN) weighed 1410 lbs and sold for 3.20/lbs to Redsper Enterprises/Redfern Farm Services.

Charolais Influence Steer wins Neepawa Interclub

Madisyn Robertson, of the Neepawa (MB) 4-H Beef Club, had Grand Champion Steer with Carl Wayne at club achievement, held July 5, judged by Shawn & Jazlyn Birmingham of Forrest. On July 6, judges Cody Carson and Bobbi-Jo Foster of Rossburn slapped Carl Wayne Overall Grand Champion Steer, out of 28 steer entries, at the Inter-Club Show. They also selected Carl Wayne as the Champion Homegrown Steer. Carl Wayne weighed 1488 lbs. (ADG of 3.11) and sold that evening for $3.40/lb. to Gill & Schmall Agencies of Neepawa.

Past CCA President Passes

Harvey Trimble, Okotoks, AB passed away July 15th at the age of 85. Buying his first Charolais in 1966 he was president of the Canadian Charolais Association from 1969 to 1971. Harvey was a great promoter of the breed and his Valiant Ranch was very successful for many years. A celebration of Harvey’s life will be announced at a later date.

Eric Smith, Mankota, SK won Grand Champion Steer at the July 16 Calgary Stampede Junior Steer Classic. Eric’s steer Richard is a clubby sired steer out of a purebred Charolais cow. The 49 head show was judged by Ryan Rash, Crockett, TX.

Saskatchewan Pioneer Breeder Passes

Nancy May Sparrow passed away July 10th at the age of 94. Nancy and her husband Alan started in Charolais in the early 60s and ran under A. Sparrow Farms, Vanscoy, SK and she was an active Charolette volunteer in the early years. Nancy was a very positive personality and always took interest in everyone and was a gracious hostess. She is survived by her four sons, 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Charolais Influence Steer wins Weyburn

Kyla Lees, Arcola-Kisbey Beef Club won Grand Champion Steer at the Weyburn Inter club 4H show on July 6, 2022. The 120 head steer show was judged by Shannon Eaton, Lloydminster, AB. Kyla’s steer weighed 1,356lb and sold for $4.50/lb to Flying C Vetrinary Services, Weyburn. Kyla’s steer was a Monopoly sired out of JWX Miss Impressive.

Charolais Heifer Wins Frontier Days

Southland Halo 60J, sired by JMAR Benaiah and exhibited by Claire Cadieux, Shaunavon, SK was Champion Charolais Female, July 1st at Frontier Days in Swift Current. The Judge was Michael Wheeler of Saskatoon. Halo 60J was also named Champion Charolais Female in the open show at Frontier Days on June 30. The Judge was Garner Deobald.
