CAD Charolais Wins Supreme in the Pen-A-Rama Show

CAD Charolais, Shaunavon won Supreme over all breeds in the Pen-A-Rama pen of three bull calf show held November 23 at Regina’s Canadian Western Agribition show.

Charolais Dominate Canadian Western Agribition Commercial Show

Bar Crossroads Ranch of Edam won an unprecedented forth win in a row of the Canadian Western Agribition Commercial Show Feeder Steer category. These Charolais sired steers out of Simmental X Hereford females won the pen of 10 division and then the over all. Weighing 955 lbs. they sold the next day in the sale for 100.50/lb. Steve’s Pen of 10 Feeder Heifers also won the over feeder heifer category.

Ste. Rose (MB) Auction Market had about 1,200 head including 800 calves at their Sept. 9th sale. Some of the top prices for your information:

13 white and tan steers that weighed 500 lbs. brought $1.06 1/2

17 black steers 3/4 Angus 1/4 Limo 500 lbs. brought $0.97 1/4

19 white and tan steers that weighed 598 lbs. brought $ 0.99

The only calves in the 500-600 lb. range that hit $1.00 were Charolais calves.

Charolais student wins CWA Scholarship

Canadian Western Agribition President Larry Brack announced the eight recipients of the $1,000 CWA Scholarship Awards for the 2004 * 2005 academic year. The recipients are pursuing their post secondary education at institutions in the United States as well as Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Educational interests range from agriculture studies to engineering, education, administration and communications. One of those receiving a scholarship is Charolais breeder Crystal Blake, Wood River Charolais, McCord, SK; a Team Grooming and International 4-H Judging Seminar participant entering her 3rd year, Agriculture-Animal Science at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon.

CCA Hires Commercial Fieldman

Garner Deobald of Hodgeville, SK has been hired by the Canadian Charolais Assoication as its new fieldman effective October 1st, 2004. Garner is no stranger to the association having been a breeder for the past 25 years. As well as serving on the Saskatchewan Charolais Association and the Canadian Charolais Association board of directors, Garner was CCA president from 2000 to 2002. Deobald’s focus will be on the commerecial industry building a stronger relationship right from the producer to auction marts, feedlots and packing plants.

Mark Lowerison leaves C.C.A.

Mark Lowerison who has been the Canadian Charolais Association Breed Improvemnet Coordinator for the past two years has tendered his resignation as of August 31st. Mark and his wife Karen are moving to Guelph, ON where he is going to do his master’s degree in animal science and Karen will be finalizing her second degree, this time in animal science.

A Buckskin Charolais X Shorthorn/Hereford steer was declared the Grand Champion by Jay Fox, Eddystone, MB of this years Melfort 4-H Regional Show. The 1,249 lb. owned by Sara May Wielgosz of Rose Valley beat out 91 other steers for the title. The steer sold for $2.60/lb. to Mel Green Equipment, Dwayne Enterprises, Thomas Motors & Paragon Agro Services all of Melfort.

Charolais Steer Wins Swift Current (SK) 4-H Regional Show

Shane Blake of McCord showed a Buckskin Charolais X steer off a Black brokel face cow to the Grand Champion position at the 2004 Swift Current Regional 4-H Show. Judge Curt Blacklock, Saskatoon pick this calf over 117 others. Profico Energy, Calgary bought the calf in the sale for $2.60/lb. with the steer weighing1,375 lbs.
