Charcross Steers Win Renfrew Show

Katie Cox had the Grand Champion steer at the Renfew (ON) Fair, September 10th. Here steer Walt weighed 1,405 lb and sold for $9.25/lb to BEI Construction.
Tyson Black had the Res. Grand Champion steer with Johnny weighing 1,410 lb and selling for $5.00/lb to Mackenzie Motors.

Cornerview/WhiteWater win Renfrew Show

Cornerview Jezzabel 27J, sired by Sparrows Chicago 724E, exhibited by Cornerview Charolais, Cobden was selected Grand Champion Female of the Renfrew (ON) Charolais (BOSS) Show, September 10th. Judge Kevin Brown of Orillia then chose Blackbern Kelly 5K, sired by
LT Del Rey 6161 P from Blackbern Farm, Foresters Falls as his Reserve Grand Champion of this 27 entry show. Grand Champion Bull was WhiteWater Kentucky 13K, sired by SOS Chuck Wagon 54C from WhiteWater Livestock, Haley Station. Reserve Grand Champion Bull was DMC McCord King 1K, sired by CRG Outta Here 954G from McCord Farms, Carp.

Former Alberta Charolais Breeder passes

Kendall Bignell, Buffalo Lake Charolais, Stettler, AB passed away September 15th at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife Shirley of 61 years, four children, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A celebration of Kendall’s Life will be held Wednesday, September 21st at 1:00 PM at the Stettler Funeral Home.

Former Saskatchewan Breeder Passes

Merv Schmidt formerly of Belmont Polled Charolais, Lipton, SK passed away peacefully in his home September 15th at the age of 71. Merv, his wife Barb and children Dawn, Tina and Tyler were very active in the Charolais business for many years. The herd was started in 1972 and dispersed in 2006. They produced many champions and high sellers in both white and red genetics that were sought after across North America.
A celebration of life will be held in the Fort Qu’Appelle Royal Canadian Legion, Saturday, October 8th, 2022 commencing @ 2:00PM

Norwegian Girl Looking for Cattle Work

The daughter of a Norwegian cattle breeder is looking for employment in Canada starting in August 2023. She will be 23 years old and will be finished her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. Kawartha Lakes Halliburton 4-H Fair

Tyler Burgomaster, Omemee, ON exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Female at the Kawartha Lakes Halliburton 4-H Fair with Sharodon JuJube 116J. The show was judged by Jarod Ball of Orillia and held on August 27th. Tyler exhibited the only Charolais animal in the show.

Former Saskatchewan Breeder Passes

William Lovell Carter, aged 93 years of Moose Jaw, SK passed away on Tuesday, August 30th, 2022. Lovell is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances (née: McEwan); daughters, Brenda (Norm) Carter and Patty (Barry) Hall; grandchildren: Courtney (Shea) and their children Wyatt and Lily, Megan (Kelly) and their children Halle and Rylee, and Justin; brother, Jimmy; and brother-in-law, Delmar (Shirley) McEwan. Lovell and his family were in the Charolais business for over 25 years dispersing in 1990. The farm name was Lazy O Charolais at Mortlach.  A Celebration of Lovell’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 3rd, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home.
