Former Saskatchewan Breeder Passes
Jocelyne (Begrand) Pelletier, aged 71, of Duck Lake, passed away peacefully on June 18th, 2022,
surrounded by family. Jocelyne was an integral part of Green Acres Charolais for 40 years with
her husband Edwin. Jocelyne will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
The funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the Blessed
Sacrament Church in Duck Lake, SK. In Jocelyne’s honour, donations can be made to the Heart
& Stroke Foundation (heartandstroke.ca).

Charolais Win Rocky 4-H
Levi Pals steer Jim Bean of the Rocky North 4-H Club won Grand Champion Steer May 26 at the Rocky Mountain House, AB, 4-H Show. The 37 head steer show was judged by Darrell Hickman. Jim Bean weighed 1535lb and sold for $4.50/lb to Simms & Associates Insurance.
Wesley Pals Charolais sired steer Jack Daniels won Champion Rate of Gain at the Rocky North 4-H show with a daily gain of 3.99lb/day. Jack Daniels weighed 1595lb and sold for $3.50/lb to 7 Lazy T 7 Cattle Co. (Damian Moore & Amy Taylor).
Jacob Feige, Wild Rose 4-H Beef Club won Grand Champion Steer at the Prince Albert Regional 4-H Beef show and sale. The 61 head steer show was judged by Lee and Dawn Wilson, Bashaw, AB. Jacob’s steer weighed 1,348lb and sold for $6.00/lb to Fremont Trucking, Prince Albert.
Reserve Grand Champion steer was exhibited by Kylee Hansen, Weldon 4-H Beef Club. Her steer weighed 1,340lb and sold for $5.00/lb to Ag Authority, Kinistino.
Rylan MacGillivray’s Cow/Calf pair was selected Grand Champion Female by judges Lee and Dawn at the Prince Albert Regional 4-H Beef Show and Sale. Snowball is a purebred female, Cay’s Shanelle 14H, sired by TR PZC MR TURTON 0794 ET. Rylan is a member of the Weldon 4-H Beef Club.
Kasey Phillips, Waskatenau, AB was re-elected president of the Canadian Charolais Association at their 63rd Annual General Meeting held June 11th at Russell, MB. Garner Deobald, Cedarlea Farms, Hodgeville was elected president of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association at their 109th Annual General Meeting & Convention June 5-7, 2022 in Assiniboia, SK. The Saskatchewan Stock Growers Associaition is a member-driven advocacy organization representing producers interest through education, communication and research focused on an economically and evnironmentally sustainable livestock mareketplace free of industry limiting laws and regulations.
Dr. W. Curt Hagele of Saskatoon, SK passed away June 4th, 2022 at the age of 77. Curt and his children Eric & Michelle had a small Charolais herd and the kids were active in showing and the Junior association growing up. He worked at the Veterinary College when he first moved to Saskatoon and then directed the Saskatoon Embryo Transplant Unit. It was here that he became a specialist in bovine embryo transplanting. In 1987 Curt established his own practice, Embryonics Canada Inc. His expertise in the field of embryo transplanting allowed him the opportunity to travel the world, educating abroad and promoting Canadian cattle genetics.
