The Royal Agriculture Winter Fair in Toronto has been cancelled for 2020 due to concerns with COVID-19 pandemic. On June 24th the Board of Directors made this tough decision. This is only the second time in their history that the show has been cancelled. The other time was during World War II. In their press release they stated that together we will get through this, and “Bring the Country to the City” next November 5th-14th, 2021.
The 50th show of Canadian Western Agribition has be postponed to 2021. The decision was made on June 16th by the CWA Board of Directors in light of the travel restrictions and uncertainty around COVID-19. The planning for the 50th show this year included some special events including 12 National Breed Shows. Planning for this anniversary show November 22nd – 27th, 2021 is already underway.
Adolf (Adi) Hollaus AHH Charolais, Langley, British Columbia passed away April 23rd at the age of 84. Adi was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Eileen, and is survived by his children: Angela, Al, Wayne and Brian. Adolf was very active in the British Columbia Charolais Association events and a tireless promoter of the breed for many decades. He bought his first Charolais female in 1968 and sold the last of the herd a few years ago when he had a stroke and was forced to move to a retirement home. He showed for many years at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) in Vancouver winning Champion Female there in 1981 and a son of hers, AHH Stylist 16U was Grand Champion Bull there in 1987. Stylist then sold in the 1988 Bull Power Sale to Spruceville Charolais, Rawe Ranches and Doll Charolais. After the PNE show was discontinued Adolf moved to showing at the Interior Provincal Exhibition (IPE) in Armstrong for over 10 years. There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, August 2nd. Walter Palaschuk, WPLB Charolais, Raymore, SK passed away May 18th at the age of 83. Walter was a very successful Hereford breeder for many year before he and Lydia switched to breeding Charolais over 25 years ago. A good stockman, he was very competitive in the show and sale ring winning championships across Canada and at Denver including winning the Premier Exhibitor Award at Agribition in 1999. He sold in the Lloydminster and Regina Bull Sales for many years. A celebration of Walter’s life will be held August 15th at the chapel in Raymore with burial at the Stone Church near their farm with lunch at the farm after.
Alain Bouffard passed away suddenly at his home at Ayer’s Cliff, Quebec on May 18, 2020 at the age of 69. A Charolais breeder for many years he was always cheerful and easy to visit with being interested in everyone he met. Raising a large family on the farm, many are still involved in agriculture.He is survived by his wife of 45 year, Pauline Carrier along with his 12 children and 46 grandchildren. Some of you outside of Quebec will remember his children Myriam and Jean-Sebatian who attended CCYA in the early 2000s and recently grandchildren Lilyanne, Damien & Tristan have attended CCYA along with their parents Jannick Bouffard & Sherry Paxton who own Open Gate Farm. The family will welcome those who wish to pay a final tribute to Alain on the family property at 9 chemin Corey, Barnston-Ouest, Friday, May 22nd from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, May 23rd from 12 to 2 p.m. The funeral ceremony will follow in family privacy.
