CRG Miss Redeemed 4K, sired by CCC WC Redemption 7143 Pld ET, exhibited by McCord Farms, Kanata, ON was selected Grand Champion Female at Expo Boeuf Charolais (BOSS) Show, in Victoriaville, QC October 7th. Judge Jeff Lees, Arcola, SK then chose DMC McCord Miss Canada 1L, sired by CRG Outta Here 954G from McCord Farms as his Reserve Grand Champion Female of this 28 entry show. Grand Champion Bull was Cornerview Laredo 7L, sired by LT Patriot 4004 Pld from Cornerview Charolais, Cobden, ON. Reserve Grand Champion Bull was Fondoak Fonzie 6L, sired by  LT Del Rey 6161P from Fondoak Farm, Renfrew, ON. Complete results will be in the December Charolais Banner.

Hunter Re-elected President of the MCA

Michael Hunter, Roblin, was re-elected president of the Manitoba Charolais Association at their Annual General Meeting held October 5th in Brandon, MB. Owen Sellman, McCreary, was re-elected 1st Vice President while Scott Baron, Carberry, remains the 2nd Vice-President position. Rae Trimble-Olson, Portage la Prairie, continues as the Secretary-Treasurer. Manitoba Charolais Ambassador of the year went to Ron & Gail McDonald, R&G McDonald Livestock, Sidney. Charcross Reserve at Lenore 4-H

Ricki Hill won Reserve Grand Champion Steer out of 26 steers at the Lenore, MB 4-H Beef Club Achievement Day held July 3rd in Virden. The next day She won her weight class out of 8 steers at the Virden & District Interclub show and sale. Judges were Nolan Glover & Denver Bolton. Her steer weighed 1356lb and sold for $3.90/lb to Sparwood Service Center and Farley Kempthorne CPA LLP.

Charolais Supreme at Durham Central Fair

Cedardale Limited Edition 98L, sired by Cedardale Jaguar 111J from Cedardale Farms, Nestleton was Supreme Champion Bull at the Durham Central Fair in Orono, ON. There were about 110 head of all breeds in the show.

Early Alberta Charolais Breeder Passes

Gordon Meaken of Westlock, AB passed away September 19th at the age of 91.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 67 years Pat, his five children: Janice (Arnold) Piontkowski, Wayne (Linda) Meakin, Pam (Peter) Gonnet, Wade (Sherry) Meakin, Norine (Ken) Schuster, 10 grandchildren & 17 great-grandchildren.
Gordon & Patricia purchased their first Charolais heifers in the early 1970s and grew the Char-Kin Farms herd at Alcomdale until they dispersed it in 2002. Over the years he was a 4-H leader and a director on the Alberta Charolais Association Board. In 2009 they were awarded the Canadian Charolais Association Honour Roll.
As per his wishes, there is no service planned. A small celebration of life for family will be held later.
