Grand Champion Bull was Hicks Cryptonyte 24C, sired by Hicks Indiana Jones 7Y, from Hicks Charolais, Arthur. Reserve Grand Champion Bull was Cornerview Dashboard 39D, sired by SVY Monument Pld 159Y exhibited by Cornerview Charolais, Cobden & Sunrise Charolais, Stayner.

Longtime CCA employee passes
Donna Kucinskas passed away September 14th at the age of 76. Donna worked in the registry department and receptionist of the Canadian Charolais Association for 23 years. A Funeral Service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home (1605 – 100 Street SE, Calgary) on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
A Charolais sired buckskin steer from Tyson Black, Foresters Falls was named Reserve Grand Champion at the Renfrew (ON) Fair 4-H Interclub Show on September 9th. The judge was Doug Milne-Smith, Kemptville and the steer weighed 1,505 lb and sold for $6/lb to North Gower Grains, North Gower. The steer dress 924 lb or 61%.
Oattes/Sharodon Win Renfrew Fair
CRG Pincess Valentine 42D, sired by TR PZC Mr Turton 0794 ET from Oattes Charolais, Cobden was named Grand Champion Female at the Renfrew (ON) Fair, September 10th. Judge Mark Phillips, Denfield then chose CRG Miss Control 30E, sired by MCF Bohannon 305A, also from Oattes Charolais as the Reserve Grand Champion Female of the 32 entry BOSS Show. Grand Champion Bull was Sharodon Tulo 14C, sired by Gerrard Montezuma 6T from Sharodon Farms, Omemee and Reserve Grand Champion Bull was Cornerview Dashboard 39D exhibited by Cornerview Charolais, Cobden & Sunrise Charolais, Stayner.


Will Banford, Eastend had Grand Champion steer at the Maple Creek, SK 4-H regional show June 13th, judged by Jamie Rae Pittman. His steer competed against 50 steers, weighed 1,480 lb and sold for $4.25/lb to Instow Reclamation, Shaunavon and Rick Peterson, Climax. This is the third year in a row that the Banfords have had Champion here.
Elsie Rawlings, Armstrong, BC won Grand Champion steer at the Okanagan 4-H Stock Show and Sale held July 4-8th in Armstrong. The 25 steers were judged by Kevin & Kailey Wirsta. The steer weighed 1,470 lb and sold for $3.75 lb/lb to Beachcomber Home and Leisure, Vernon. The steer was purchased from Kay-R Charolais.
Howe New SCA President
Kelly Howe of Moose Jaw (SK) was elected president of the Saskatchewan Charolais Association at their 54th Annual General Meeting held July 30th at Moose Jaw. Complete AGM details will be in the August Charolais Banner online this week or in the mail August 8th.

Megan McLeod, Cochrane, AB, was declared the overall High Point Aggregate winner at Summer Synergy held in Olds, AB from July 12 – 15.Of the six catagories in the competition, Megan was:
Champion Charolais Female with CML Desirae 558C and her heifer calf sired by MVY All Shook Up 18C
Overall Champion in Marketing
Reserve Champion Showmanship
3rd Overall Grooming
5th Overall in multi species judging
High score for her Personal Interview
Over 200 youth participated in this years event.
In total, 44 youth received scholarships exceeding $80,000.
The scholarships were sponsored by the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Foundation
