Bob Gordon passed away on July 29th at the age of 83. Bob was a life-time farmer, cattle breeder and owner of Kinnaber Cattle Co., Souris, Manitoba and a beef cattle sire-selector for Alta Genetics of Balzac, Alberta. Funeral service will be held at Central United Church 327- 8 th Street Brandon on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a time of lunch and fellowship at the Church. In memory of Bob, donations may be made to the Bob Gordon Memorial Fund with proceeds going to youth and agriculture endeavours, Box 605 Boissevain, Manitoba R0K 0E0.

Hudson Davies, Medicine Hat, AB won the overall highest Rate of Gain over 60 steers at the Borderline 4-H regional show in Medicine Hat with a silver Charcross. The steer weighed in on Nov. 11, 2015 at 645 lb and on June 11, 2016 his steer weighed 1,530 lb for an ADG of 4.14 lb.day

Carey Weinbender, Canora was elected president of the Saskatchewan Charolais Association at their 53rd Annual General Meeting held July 24th in Saskatoon.

Grand and Reserve Grand Aggregate Winners at the recent CCYA Conference and Show from top to bottom: Junior-Cassidy Elder, SK & Georgia Pawlitza, SK; Intermediate-Brett Marshall, AB & Calina Evans, SK; Senior-Shae-Lynn Evans, SK & Shelby Evans, SK.

Taya Lusson of Clyde, AB won 1st in the Regional 4-H carcass competition with a Full French sired Charcross steer. Weighing 1,640 lbs at the end he had gained 4.01 lb/day, had a warm carcass weight of 1,000 lb, dressing 60.98%, was a Yield Grade 1, with 4 mm of backfat and marbling AAA 85 for at total of 98 points.

Megan McLeod of Cochrane, AB had both female champions at this year’s Canadian Charolais Youth Association Show held July 15th in Olds, AB. Judges Lee & Dawn Wilson made CML Desirae 422B (Gerrard Pastor 35Z, calf-CML Distinction 318A) Grand Champion and CML Desirae 558C (CML Distinction 318A) the Reserve Grand Champion Female. Complete results of the conference and show will be in the October issue of the Charolais Banner.

Justin Cay, Kinistino, SK won Grand Champion Female at the Melfort 4-H regional show on July 10th, for the second year in a row with Prairie Cove Miss 309A,  sired by HTA Vegas 134Y and her PCC Rome 437B heifer calf. The judge was Kurtis Reid.

April Steppler, Miami, MB had Grand Champion Steer at the Carman 4-H Interclub show with her 1,560 lb purebred Charolais steer. Judge Chad Haaland, Hanley, SK placed him over 25 steers and the steer later sold for $4/lb to Gilbraith Farm Services, St. Claude.

Brian Coughlin of Cobden, ON was re-elected to the board of directors and as president of the Canadian Charolais Association at the Annual General Meeting held June 18th in Edmonton, AB. Andre Steppler, Miami, MB is 1st Vice-President, Darwin Rosso, Moose Jaw, SK is 2nd Vice-President, with Brent Saunders, Markdale, ON remaining on the executive as Past President. Newly elected to the board for three year terms were Allan Marshall, Innisfail, AB and Mathieu Palerme, Gatineau, QC. Full details will be in the August issue of the Charolais Banner.

Danielle Meier, Kerrobert, SK won Supreme Champion Female at the 70th Annual Kerrobert and District Agricultural Society, Regional 4-H show and sale on June 1st, with SOS Hot Mess 50B with Hopewell No Chill 4D at side. Judge Brennan Schachtel also made Danielle’s yearling heifer LAE Carmelita 564C Reserve Champion Heifer.
