A Charcross steer exhibited by Cassidy Serhienko of Maymont, SK topped 96 steers to win the Saskatoon 4-H regional show. The steer weighing 1,451 lbs. sold for $4.10/lb. to Moody’s Farm Equipment and Bourgault Industries. A silver Charcross steer shown by Shae-Lynn Evans, Kenaston won the light weight division weighing 1,236 lbs. and sold for $2.00/lb. to Millsap Fuel Distibutors, Kenaston.
Shae-Lynn also had Reserve Grand Champion female with LAE Sassy Sanchez 906W and her Eldorado bull calf LAE Yes-Man 138Y. There were 66 females shown and the judge for both shows on July 10th & 11th was Dennis Erickson.

Charcross Steer Wins Virden 4-H
Jaylin Hill of Lenore, MB won Grand Champion steer out of 45 head at the Virden 4-H interclub show with a white Charcross steer weighing 1,320 lbs. The steer judged by Bill Campbell sold for $2.32/lb. to Higginbotham Electric. The day before she was Reserve Champion in the Lenore club standing behind a tan Charcross steer exhibited by Kate-Lyn Nykoliation, Virden that weighed 1,400 lbs and sold for $2.32 1/2/lb. to TL Penner Construction
Charolais Heifers Sweep Yorkton 4-H
Sarah Weinbender, Sliding Hills Charolais, Canora, SK won Grand Champion Female at the Yorkton (SK) 4-H Regional Show and Sale held July 6th. Reserve Champion Female went to Dale Weinbender, Sliding Hills Charolais, Canora.
Clinton Hinsburg, Rapid City, MB won, Grand Chmpion Yearling Heifer and Supreme Grand Chmpion Female at the 2011 Neepawa Fat Stock Show & Sale on July 6, 2011 with KCH MALIBU 20X, sired by SRK Solid 12U. Clint & KCH MALIBU 20X also won Grand Champion Yearling Heifer and Supreme Champion Female at the Rapid City 4-H Club Achievement held on June 18, 2011
A tan Charcross steer raised and exhibited by Dane Oram of Central Butte, SK won Reserve Grand Champion in a field of 105 steers at the Swift Current Regional 4-H Show. Weighing 1,255 lbs. the steer sold for $2.00/lb. to JayDee AgTech, Swift Current.
Wade Beck of Milestone, SK was elected president of the Canadian Charolais Association at the 51st Annual General Meeting held June 14th in Charlottetown, PE. Lyle Bignell, Stettler, AB moves to Past President, while Brent Saunders, Markdale, ON was voted 1st Vice-President and Campbell Forsyth, Eriksdale, MB remains as 2nd Vice-President.

Char X Steer wins Reserve
Reagan McLoed had the reserve champion steer at the Willow Creek District 4-H show. The 1451lb silver steer sold for $2.30 a pound to Westwind Chev Olds in Clairsholm.

Jade Marshall of the Bow-Inn 4-H Club had the Grand Champion Steer at the Red Deer and District 4-H show. The 1320lb Char X steer was sold to Encana Resources for $ 2.50 a pound

Highest Bull Sale Averages
In the May issue of the Charolais Banner magazine a recap of the Spring Bull sales shows the highest averages in the 30 years we have been tracking them. There were 68 bull sales reporting in 2011 with the overall average up $542 from last year, with nearly 150 more bulls selling, and over 2,300 bulls averaging $3,672. This is $400 higher than the second highest average posted in 2001 and $1,471 higher than the lowest average in 1985.
