Walker Re-elected President of SCA

Orland Walker of Hudson Bay was re-elected president of the Saskatchewan Charolais Association at their Annual General Meeting held June 15th in Moose Jaw. Donna Ross, Coronach was re-elected as 1st Vice-President, Greg Gilliland, Carievale was elected 2nd Vice-President and Dave Blechinger, Rosetown remains Secretary/Treasurer.

Charolais Steer Wins Kerrobert Regional Show

” Tyler Applin of Alsask, SK had Grand Champion steer beating out 30 steers at the 4-H Regional Show held June 2nd in Kerrobert. The tan steer weighed 1,232 lbs. and sold for $2.40/lb. to J & B Equipment Ltd., Kindersley. Judges were Shana & Jinaye Ayrey.

Char-Cross Steer Grand Champion at 4-H On Parade

Judge Aaron Grant selected a tan Char-cross steer as Grand Champion at the 2010 4-H on Parade, Calgary, Alberta. The 1288 lbs steer was exhibited by Rachel Drake, Irricana and sold for $6.50 per lbs to the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. A total of 125 steers were exhibited at this years 4-H on Parade.

PCC Sudden Impact 848U a two year old son of Cougarhill Hank 720G was named supreme champion bull at Farmfair in Edmonton, AB. He is owned by Prairie Cove Charolais, Bowden, D. Grant Farms, Bowden, Clear Lake Charolais, Tiger Lily and the Quebec Syndicate. For his win he received ownership in a new Dodge truck.

Grand Champion Bull, slapped by Judges Jordan Buba and Kyle Lewis was PCC SUDEN IMPACT 848U Prairie Cove Charolais, Bowden, D. Grant Farms, Bowden, Clear Lake Charolais, Tiger Lily and the Quebec Syndicate.

Reserve Champion Bull was GERRARD JAMBALAYA 10X Gerrard Cattle Co. Innisfail.

 

Michael Tupling Trust Fund Receives $61,000

The raffle for the heifer calf donated by Saunders Charolais, Markdale was a huge success. With tickets sales leading up to and tickets auctioned at the start of the All Breeds Sale at the Toronto Royal, there was an outpouring from across the country and across breeds. With over $50,000 in tickets sold the draw was made with the winners being the CCA 50th Anniversay & Homecoming Committee. The committee had agreed to donate the heifer back to be auctioned off at the end of the sale and she sold for $10,700 to Micahel’s brother, Chester & Carla Tupling, Rollin’ Acres Charolais, Shelburne. The cattle community is very strong. Payment should be made to the Ontario Charolais Association and sent to secretary Doris Aitken, RR #3, Mount Forest, ON N0G 2L0

 

Steppler Wins Supreme at Brandon

Sparrows Seminole 927W sired by ABC Latoro 263G and exhibited by Steppler Charolais, Miami was named Supreme Champion Bull at the 2010 Manitoba Livestock Expo November 6th in Brandon, MB.

 

Saunders, Where Eagles Soar/Medonte Win Toronto Royal Show

JSR Usher 32U sired by SVY Freedom and exhibited by Saunders Charolais and Where Eagles Soar Charolais, Markdale was named Grand Champion Bull at the Toronto Royal Show, November 5th in Toronto, ON. Reserve Grand Champion Bull was Hicks Remington 31U sired by WESC Hicks Revolver 14R and exhibited by Hicks Charolais, Arthur.

Judge Garner Deobald, Hodgeville, SK slapped Medonte Untouchable 8U sired by SVY Freedom Pld 307N and calf by PCFL San Antonio 131N, exhibited by Medonte Charolais, Hillsdale & EMB Charolais, Hawkstone, the Grand Champion Female. Reserve Grand Champion Female was Cornerview Willow 7W by Sparrows Coach 467S from Cornerview Charolais, Cobden.

 

Steppler/Wilgenbusch Win Manitoba Livestock Expo

Steppler Charolais, Miami had both Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Bull at the Manitoba Livestock Expo, November 5th in Brandon, MB. Sparrows Seminole 927W sired by ABC Latoro 263G was Grand Champion while Steppler Doc Holiday 61X sired by Sparrows Oakridge 66R was Reserve Grand Champion.

Judge Owen Legarden of Paynton, SK slapped LA Miss Integrity 12W sired by TLC Integrity 5987 from Wilgenbusch Charolais, Halbrite, SK as his Grand Champion Female. High Bluff Gelia 112W sired by MVX Cougarhill Hank 720G from High Bluff Stock Farm, Inglis was Reserve Grand Champion Female of this 38 entry show.

 

Cedarlea/Char-Mo/CSS Win Supreme at Lloydminster

CSS Sir Gridmaker 2W sired by KAYR Grid Grid Iron 400S and exhibited by Cedarlea Farms, Hodgeville and Char-Mo & CSS Charolais, Paynton was named Supreme Champion Bull at the Lloydminster Stockade and Round-Up Show, November 5th in Lloydminster, SK.

Dale Norheim Dies in Farm Accident

Dale Norheim, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Charolais breeder and Sales Manager died in a quad accident while chasing cows October 16th. The funeral service was Friday, October 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Hall A, Prairieland Exhibition Park, Saskatoon, SK. In lieu of flowers donations will be accepted for the Hanley First Responders or the Dale Norheim Memorial Fund for Youth in Agriculture. Grand Aggregate winners for most points at the 2010 Canadian Charolais Youth Association Show and Conference in Dauphin, MB July 21-24th were:

Charolais steer Wins Calgary

A1394 lb. dark grey Charcross steer from Roger Hardy, Sooline Cattle Co. of Midale, SK, Tyler Bullick, Dutchess, AB and Wacey McCaw won the UFA Steer Classic at the Calgary Stampede. The champion steer received $10,000 when he beat out 79 entries in 11 different classes on Saturday, July 17th. Judge Cam Sparrow, Vanscoy, SK used a steer from Rod McLeod, Cochrane as Reserve in the Charolais class.

 

Charolais influence Top Saskatoon 4-H Regional

Grand Champion Steer was exhibited by Katie Serhienko, Maymont. The silver steer sired by a club calf bull our of a Charolais cow weighed 1460 lb. and sold for $7.00 / lb. to Dairyland Agro and John Deere Farm & Garden Centre.

Reserve Grand Champion Steer was exhibited by Emma Sparrow. It was a tan Charolais sired calf weighing 1370 lb. and sold for $3.75 per pound to Moody’s Equipment, Saskatoon.

There were 91 steers in the show judged by Rob Garner, Simpson, on July 11th and 12th.

Shae-Lynn Evans, Kenaston, had the Grand Champion Bred Heifer with LAE Sassy Sanchez 906W. She went on to be the Reserve Grand Champion Female.

 

Charolais Win Rivers 4-H

Judge Darby Cochrane uses a white Charolais steer from Terinda Holopina, Rivers over 23 other steers at the Rivers, MB 4-H Beef Club achievement day. The steer weighed 1,308 lbs. and sold for $1.50/lb. to Redfern Farm Services. Nikoda Holopina won champion interclub yearling heifer at Rivers in early July with HTA Sara 955W a Gridmaker out of a Nobleman.

 

Charolais Heifer Wins at Melfort 4-H

A Charolais heifer exhibited by Layne Cay of Kinistino, SK and of the Meskanaw-Ethelton 4-H Beef Club won Junior Champion Female at the Melfort Regional 4-H Show on July 4th.

 

Charolais Steer Wins Melita 4-H

Hayley Schuddemat from the Tilston (MB) 4-H Beef Club won the Melita Interclub Rally June 19th with a tan Charcross steer. The steer beat out 20 others and weighed 1,290 lbs., sold for $2.10/lb. to Penn West Energy, Estevan, SK. Judge was Wally Mitchell, Killarney.

The rest of the executive remained the same as well with Wade Beck, Lang, 1st Vice-President, Campbell Forsyth, Eriksdale, MB, 2nd Vice-President and Cam Sparrow, Vanscoy staying on as Past-President.

Wilgenbusch Charolais, Halbrite was voted the Saskatchewan Charolais Association’s Breeder of the Year which was presented during the SCA AGM held June 15th in Moose Jaw, SK

 

Walker Re-elected President of SCA

Orland Walker of Hudson Bay was re-elected president of the Saskatchewan Charolais Association at their Annual General Meeting held June 15th in Moose Jaw. Donna Ross, Coronach was re-elected as 1st Vice-President, Greg Gilliland, Carievale was elected 2nd Vice-President and Dave Blechinger, Rosetown remains Secretary/Treasurer.

Charolais Steer Wins Kerrobert Regional Show

” Tyler Applin of Alsask, SK had Grand Champion steer beating out 30 steers at the 4-H Regional Show held June 2nd in Kerrobert. The tan steer weighed 1,232 lbs. and sold for $2.40/lb. to J & B Equipment Ltd., Kindersley. Judges were Shana & Jinaye Ayrey.

 

Char-Cross Steer Grand Champion at 4-H On Parade

Judge Aaron Grant selected a tan Char-cross steer as Grand Champion at the 2010 4-H on Parade, Calgary, Alberta. The 1288 lbs steer was exhibited by Rachel Drake, Irricana and sold for $6.50 per lbs to the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. A total of 125 steers were exhibited at this years 4-H on Parade.

Cornerview / Oattes Win Renfrew Charolais Show (A BOSS Show)

Cornerview Charolais, Cobden, won both Grand and Reserve Champion Bull awards at the Renfrew Charolais Show in Renfrew September 13th.

CORNERVIEW WALLSTREET 3W, a TLC Integrity 5087P calf, from JSR Juice was slapped Calf and Grand Champion by Judge Dwight Kyle, of Iona Station, Ontario.

CORNERVIEW WRANGLER 10W, a son of JDJ Smokestar 5087P was named Reserve Calf Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Bull.

Oattes Charolais, Cobden, exhibited the Senior and Grand Champion Female with CEDARDALE SUCCESS 3S, an LT Wyoming Wind daughter with her CRG Total Control 36T calf at side.

Junior and Reserve Grand Champion Female was exhibited by Sharodon Farms, Peterborough, with BLP ULTIMATE 20U, an LT Rio Blanco daughter.

 

Springside Farms wins I.P.E.

Springside Farms captured both Grand Champion Bull and Female honours at the Interior Provincial Exhibition in Armstrong, BC.  Judge Howard Schneider of Ardrossen, AB slapped SDC Regina 106R, sired by SVY Freedom Pld 307N, as the Grand Champion Female.

Reserve Champion Female, at this BOSS Show on September 5, was NCLB Simply Irresistable, sired by DBAR Survivor 220M, shown by Brayden Paget, Donalda, AB.

Charcross Steer wins Horsefly Beef Club 4-H Show

Selena Laffer, Horsefly 4-H Beef Club, won Grand Champion Steer at the Williams Lake, BC and District 4-H Show and Sale, August 14th -19th, 2009. Judge Eddy Holland from Bluffton, Texas selected Selena’s 1,365 lb white Charcross steer over 71 entries. Her steer sold to Hartland Toyota, Williams Lake for $4.25/lb.

 

Charcross steer wins Rainy River 4-H Show

Nick Teeple, Emo,ON won Grand Champion steer at the Rainy River district 4-H show held August 14th in Emo. The steer weighing 1,265 lbs. won over 25 other steers and sold for $2.64/lb. to Cloverleaf Grocery.

 

Grant Farms/Harvie Ranching Win Alberta Designate Show (A BOSS Show)

Grant Farms, Bowden had Grand Champion Female with Prairie Cove Miss 505R (sired by MVX Cougarhill Hank 720G-Calf Sparrows Sanchez 715T) at the 2009 Olds Fair Charolais Show, held August 8, 2009. Judge Michael Daines, Innisfail, chose JIL Queenie 48U (Bar Diamond Hank 22M), Future Farms, Innisfail as his Reserve Grand Champion Female.

Grand Champion Bull, at this 22 entry show was Harvie Crystal D Trigger 35T (Maungchina Towkay T13), Harvie Ranching, Olds. Reserve Champion Bull was TOP Grant’s Chavez 944W (Sparrows Sanchez 715T), Grant Farms, Bowden.

 

Horkoff Inducted in Saskatchewan Agriculture Hall of Fame

Audrey Horkoff who has been Saskatchewan Charolais Association President, Canadian Charolais Association Director and Executive Member, Canadian Western Agribition President and many other accomplishments was inducted into the Saskatchewan Agriculture Hall of Fame in a ceremony held August 2nd in Saskatoon. Charolais Cross steer Wins Calgary Stampede Steer Classic

A 1319lb silver steer owned by Colby McLoed of Cochrane was chosen by judge Cam Sparrow as this year’s Champion at the Calgary Stampede Steer Classic . Colby is the son of Rod and April McLoed. This steer has had a great spring winning Olds, Bashaw and Joesphburg shows.

 

Charcross Steer Wins BC 4-H Show

Autumn Baker won Grand Champion Steer at the Okanagan 4-H Stock Show held in Armstrong, BC, July 7th-11th with a Charolais X Red Angus X Hereford buckskin steer. Judged the best over 60 others he weighed 1,225 lbs. and sold for $2.75/lb. to Sure Crop Feeds, Grindrod, BC. Autumn is the granddaughter of Keith & Cheryl Atlwasser, Altwasser Charolais of Lumby.

 

Charcross Steer Wins Virden 4-H

Kate-Lyne Nykoliation of Virden, MB won grand champion steer honours at the Virden 4-H interclub show July 6th. Jim Hallberg, Weyburn, SK judged this 1,430 lb. buckskin Charolais X Red Angus steer over 56 others which went on to sell for $2.55/lb. to Penner Connstruction, Kola.

Charolais Sweep Saskatoon 4-H Show

Shae-Lynn Evans of Kenaston won grand champion female at the Saskatoon (SK) 4-H Regional Show July 5th with LAE Sassy Spur 660S and her Sanchez heifer calf.  Claude Wasden of Spiritwood judged both the female and steer show the next day. Brandon Sparrow of Vanscoy topped 111 steers to win with his Charolais X Simmental X Hereford buckskin steer. The steer weighing 1,406 lbs. sold for $6.50/lb. to Farm and Garden Center and Dairyland Agro both of Saskatoon.

 

Charolais sweep Rivers Interclub 4-H show

Nikoda Holopina, Rivers, MB had Grand Champion steer at the Rivers 4-H Beef Fat Stock Show in early July. Appropriately named, Sir Loin this white Charolais steer weighed 1376 lbs. and sold for $1.70/lb. to Redfern Farm Services of Rivers. Marcel and Jean Fouillard of St.

Lazare judged this interclub show which saw Terinda Holopina win Grand Champion heifer with a daughter of Rio Blanco out of HTA Glitter and Brayden Heapy win Grand Champion continuation female with his two-year old HEJ Ripper daughter with her KBK Rally bull calf at side.

The Reserve Grand Champion Female of this 19 entry show was Steppler Miss Temperance 73U from Carter Ferguson, Carroll.

Judge Clint Robertson slapped JWX Reality Red 73U by Crystal D Pierce 40P and exhibited by C2 Charolais, La Riviere; Wilgenbusch Charolais, Halbrite, SK and D. Grant Farms, Olds, AB as the Grand Champion Bull.

JMB 904W by BXB Dateline Son 65R was the Reserve Grand Champion Bull for JMB Charolais.

 

Silver Charcross Wins Manitou

A Silver Charolais X Angus steer won the Manitou , MB Interclub 4-H achievement day July 4th. Keegan Blehm, son of Jeff and Jackie Cavers of C2 Charolais, La Riviere beat out 22 other steers judged by Darren Carvey, Brandon. This April 9th steer weighed 1,275 lbs. and sold for $2.15/lb. to Green Valley Equipment of Morden.   If anyone knows of other Charcross steers winning 4-H regional please send us the information for posting.

 

Bignell Elected President of the Canadian Charolais Association

Lyle Bignell, Stettler, AB was elected President of the Canadian Charolais Association at its 50th Annual General Meeting held June 30, 2009 at Russell, MB. Wade Beck, Lang, SK was elected 1st Vice-President, Campbell Forsyth, Eriksdale, MB 2nd Vice-President and Cam Sparrow, Vanscoy, SK will sit as Past-President. Newly elected to the board were John Wilgenbusch, Halbrite, SK and Dory Gerrard, Innisfail, AB.

Walker Re-Elected SCA President

O rland Walker, Hudson Bay was re-elected president of the Saskatchewan Charolais Association at its

47th Annual General Meeting held June 13th in Moose Jaw. The executive remains the same with

Donna Ross, Coronach (1st Vice-President), Donna McMorris, Balcarres (2nd Vice-President) and

Dave Bleckinger, Rosetown (Secretary-Treasurer). Elder Charolais, Coronach were presented with

the Breeder of the Year award as voted on by the breeders at Agribition last fall.

 

Charcross steer wins Roblin 4-H show

Autumn Jackson, Inglis won Grand Champion steer honours at the Roblin, Manitoba 4-H Regional show June 1st. Ben Fox, Dauphin picked this Charolais X Simmental/Red Angus steer champion over 26 others. The steer weighed 1,340 lbs and sold for $1.45/lb. to the Roblin Veterinary Clinic.

Coughlin Elected Ontario Charolais President

Brian Coughlin of Cobden was elected president of the Ontario Charolais Association at their Annual General meeting held March 7, 2009 at Cambridge, ON. Gord Tomlinson, Norwood was elected Vice-President and Doris Aitken stayed on as Secretary/Treasurer. Newly elected to the board of directors was Ryan Nesbitt of Nestleton. Gord and Shauneen Tomlinsonof Whiskey Hollow Cattle Co., Norwood won the OCA Recognition Award and Charlie and Linda Barker presented a cheque for $2,500 to the Ontario Charolais Youth Association from the Zone 6 Breeders.

Charcross Wins Fed Heifer Pen Show at Calgary Stampede 2008

Bill and Dave Massie, of Echo Springs Farm near Granum, Alberta, captured their second Champion Heifer Pen in a row. The pen had an average weight of 1,403 lbs. and sold for $1.2500/lb.

Andy Rock, of Dave Van Pelt Farm, captured the Reserve Champion title with a pen having an average weight of 1,343 lb. which sold for $1.1250/lb.

The competition of 11 pens was judged by a team of four, including Dan Gillis, Strathmore; Vern Lonsberry, High River; Sharon Wilson, Strathmore and Stirling Fox, Calgary.

 

David Prokuda Elected New ACA President

The Alberta Charolais Association held their Annual General Meeting July 12 in Red Deer. The Meeting was held in conjunction with the CCA AGM. David Prokuda Pro-Charolais from Glenevis was elected President with Ian Harvie,Harvie Ranching, Olds is first Vice. Wade Meakin From Wrangler Charolais At Westlock is second vice.

Buckskin Steer wins Virden, MB 4-H Show

Brittni Nykoliation, TRI-N Charolais, Lenore (MB) won Grand Champion Steer at this years Virden Fatstock Show and Sale held on July 3rd in Virden. Brittni’s 1305 lb. charolais steer beat out approximately 70 others to gain top spot by judge Ken Wray of Tilston. Her steer later sold to TL Penner Construction, Kola for $1.6750/lb.

A buckskin Charcross steer from Nikoda Holipina, Rivers, MB beat out 21 other steers to win the show on July 5th. Judged by Jim Hallberg, Weyburn, SK the steer sold for $1.52/lb. to Redfern Farm Equipment

 

Charolais Steer Tops Saskatoon, SK 4-H Regional

A buckskin Charcross steer exhibited by Kirsten Sparrow, Sparrow Farms, Vanscoy was selected Grand Champion of 120 steers at this years Saskatoon 4-H regional show judged by Ron Noble, Lloydminster. The steer weighed 1,439 lbs. and sold for $4.10/lb. to Saskatoon Farm & Garden, CIBC and Dupont Canada. The 120 steers averaged 1.75/lb. in the sale.

 

Charolais Female wins Supreme at Kerrobert, SK 4-H Regional Show

A two-year old cow/calf pair exhibited by Cody Meier, Hopewell Charolais, Kerrobert won overall champion female honours at this years 4-H regional show in Kerrobert.

 

Delahey selected in NHL Draft

Matt Delahey the 18 year old son of former Saskatchewan Charolais President Dave & Karen Delahey and grandson of former Canadian Charolais Association President Jerrold & Barb Delahey all of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan was selected in the 4th Round (112th overall) of the 2008 NHL entry draft June 20th & 21st in Ottawa. Matt a 6’1″, 215 lb. defenseman has played the last two seasons with the Regina Pats of the WHL and was selected by the New Jersey Devils. The Delaheys ran Chardel Charolais until they dispersed in  2004. Best of luck to Matt.

Orland Walker of Hudson Bay was elected president of the Saskatchewan Charolais Association at its 46th Annual General Meeting held June 14th in Yorkton. Vice-Presidents are Donna Ross of Coronach and Donna McMorris of Balcarres with Dave Blechinger of Rosetown taking on the Secretary-Treasurer duties.

Milliken Re-Elected President of Manitoba Charolais Association

Ian Milliken of Reston was re-elected president of the MCA at their AGM January 5th in Brandon. Also on the executive for 2008 are Andre Steppler, Miami as 1st vice-president, Carman Jackson, Inglis as 2nd vice-president and Doug Hunter, Roblin as Secretary/Treasurer.

Forsyth Bros. Charolais, Eriksdale was voted 2007 Manitoba Charolais Breeder of the Year and the Vince Wilkinson family was awarded the 2007 MCA Commercial Cattle Producers of the Year.
