Rodney James passed away December 2nd, 2022 at the age of 90. Rodney had cattle, especially purebred cattle, in his blood from an early age. Improving Canada’s beef herds was paramount through his life. He was one of the first to bring Charolais from the States in 1958, (at the age of 26), was instrumental in bringing Charolais, Simmental and other breeds from Europe, started several beef breed magazines including the Charolais Banner in 1966 and was part of it until 1983. He set up a beef operation in Nova Scotia, and started Purebred Sales Management companies to market these new breeds. Charcan and later Transcon Livestock Corp. sales management companies and selling Simmental and Charolais, were the passion for most of his life. A celebration of life will be held at the Okotoks United Church, 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 5th.

SVY Mayfield 30H, sired by CCC WC Resource 417P topped the 37 Champion bulls from across North America to win the Supreme show at Canadian Western Agribition in Regina, SK on December 3rd. He qualified being Grand Champion at Edmonton FarmFair and Grand Champion at Canadian Western Agribition Charolais shows. He is owned by Cay’s Cattle, Kinistino; Serhienko Cattle Co., Maymont; Thomas Ranch, Harrold, SD & Hansen Farms, Turton, SD.

Janet Jackson, Sylvania, SK was killed in a vehicle accident November 27th. Bob & Janet operated Bo-Jan Enterprises and have been Charolais breeders for over 45 years. Janet will be best remembered by Charolais breeders as the smiling face in the Charolais General store at Agribition for over 10 years in the 1990s to 2000s while Bob was the Charolais barn boss. McLeod Livestock/JK Fraser, Cochrane Won the Divine Divas Grand Champion Pair of Heifers at the start of the Charolais Show November 11^th in Edmonton at Farmfair International. Judges Kurt & Matthew Trefiak, Edgerton selected CML  JKF Desirae 226K, sired by CML No Worries 64H & CML Desirae 205K, sired by RBM Fargo Y111. The Reserve Champion Pair of Heifers was MISS Prairie Cove 225K, sired by M&M Outsider 4003 Pld & MISS Prairie Cove 204K ET, sired by CCC WC Redemption 7143 Pld ET, Prairie Cove Charolais, Bashaw.
