Foley Marquess, Charmark Ranches, Gem, AB passed away Aug. 2, 2011 at the age of 68. Funeral services for Foley will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Bassano on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Foley started the Charolais herd in 1971 and was still a member of the Charolais Association.

Bob Digby of Rolling D Charolais, Dropmore, MB passed away in his sleep August 2nd at the age of 72. His funeral will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 6th, Roblin Community Centre, 55 6th Ave. NE, Roblin.
Former Charolais breeder Happy Tegart of Justanother Farm, Irricana, AB was killed Sunday, July 31st in a baling accident. Justanother Farm was in the Charolais business from the mid 1970s until they dispersed in 1991.
Sparrow/Serhienko Win CCYA Show
Sparrows Hombre 355X by Sparrows Eldorado exhibited by Josie Sparrow, Vanscoy won Grand Champion Female honours at the Canadian Charolais Youth Association Conference & Show held July 23rd in Saskatoon, SK. Judge Kasey Phillips selected SVY Starstruck 8X by SVY AD Invincible exhibited by Katie Serhienko, Maymont as Reserve Grand Champion of the 37 entry show.
Charcross Wins Thorhild 4-H
A tan Charcross steer exhibited by Kord Phillips won Grand Champion at the Thorhild District 4-H Show June 11th topping 24 steers. Judged by Travis Olsen, Larry Homeniuk and Ken Stanley this 1252 lb. steer was purchased by Deerland Farm Equipment for $2.10/lb.
Walker Re-Elected SCA President
Orland Walker, Hudson Bay was re-elected president of the Saskatchewan Charolais Association at the 49th Annual Meeting held at Saskatoon, July 22nd. 1st Vice-President is Donna Ross, Coronach, Second-Vice President is Greg Gilliland, Carievale with Dave Bleckinger, Rosetown staying on as Sec./Treas.
Charcross Reserve at Melfort
A Char X Angus steer exhibited by Jennifer Harcourt, Quill Lake, SK won Reserve Grand Champion at the 4-H Regional Show July 11th in Melfort. The tan steer competed against 79 steers, judged by Levi Jackson. Weighing 1,411 lbs. it sold for $3.50/lb. to Bo-Jan Enterprises, Sylvania; Feedrite, Humboldt; Sun Life, Tisdale; Century 21 Diamond Realty, Dan & Cheryl Torwalt, Humboldt; and Accent Credit Union, Quill Lake.
Charolais Top Saskatoon 4-H
A Charcross steer exhibited by Cassidy Serhienko of Maymont, SK topped 96 steers to win the Saskatoon 4-H regional show. The steer weighing 1,451 lbs. sold for $4.10/lb. to Moody’s Farm Equipment and Bourgault Industries. A silver Charcross steer shown by Shae-Lynn Evans, Kenaston won the light weight division weighing 1,236 lbs. and sold for $2.00/lb. to Millsap Fuel Distibutors, Kenaston.
Shae-Lynn also had Reserve Grand Champion female with LAE Sassy Sanchez 906W and her Eldorado bull calf LAE Yes-Man 138Y. There were 66 females shown and the judge for both shows on July 10th & 11th was Dennis Erickson.
Charcross Steer Wins Virden 4-H
Jaylin Hill of Lenore, MB won Grand Champion steer out of 45 head at the Virden 4-H interclub show with a white Charcross steer weighing 1,320 lbs. The steer judged by Bill Campbell sold for $2.32/lb. to Higginbotham Electric. The day before she was Reserve Champion in the Lenore club standing behind a tan Charcross steer exhibited by Kate-Lyn Nykoliation, Virden that weighed 1,400 lbs and sold for $2.32 1/2/lb. to TL Penner Construction
Charolais Heifers Sweep Yorkton 4-H
Sarah Weinbender, Sliding Hills Charolais, Canora, SK won Grand Champion Female at the Yorkton (SK) 4-H Regional Show and Sale held July 6th. Reserve Champion Female went to Dale Weinbender, Sliding Hills Charolais, Canora.
