A Charolais steer of Shaylin Stebeleski of Oakburn, MB won Grand Champion honours at the McConnell 4-H Show and Sale, June 11th at Hamiota. McConnell Beef Club is the oldest beef club in Canada. The steer weighed 1,376 lb and sold for $2.50/lb to Mast Electric, Hamiota, Chappell Seeds, Hamiota & Ken Slimmons, Deloraine. Shaylin also won Champion heifer, 1st in class with her heifer calf, 1st in class and Reserve Overall Champion Female with her mature cow/calf pair. The judge was Andre Steppler.

Rosso Re-Elected President
Darwin Rosso of Moose Jaw, SK was re-elected President of the Canadian Charolais Association at their Annual General Meeting June 9th at Collingwood, ON. Mike Elder, Coronach, SK was re-elected to the board and moved into the 1st Vice-President spot while Kasey Phillips, Waskatenau, AB was re-elected to the board and moved into the 2nd Vice-President spot. Rounding out the executive is Past President Brian Couglin, Cobden, ON. Newly elected to the board for Ontario was Roger Maloney of Indian River.

John Rudiger of Rudiger Ranches, Calgary, AB passed away May 18th at the age of 84. John was a director of the Canadian Charolais Association from 1960 to 1969 and from 1993 to 1999. He was the 1st president of the Saskatchewan Charolais Association in 1964, among the first group included in the SCA Honour Scroll in 1991 and was in the first group put on the CCA Honor Roll in 1999. A Celebration of John’s Life will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Eden Brook Funeral Home (17 Ave SW and Lower Springbank Rd) at 1:00pm. Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting

HIghest Grossing Bull Sales Ever
In the 37 years the Charolais Banner has been compiling bull sale results, this spring was the best ever. From the fall of 2017 to the spring of 2018 there were 96 sales reporting, 6 more than in 2017 and the largest number of animals and sales ever. The gross was up nearly 1.35 million dollars, the highest ever. The sale average was also up from 2017 with the over 3,400 bulls sold averaging $6,160. .
