Prince Albert Regional Charity Steer raised nearly $150,000 in funds to donate to the Saskatoon Cancer Center. The Steer was sold via live Dutch Auction raising $49,930 in auction dollars. Malcom Jenkins, owner of Prince Albert Candian Tire matched the donation bringing the total to $98,780. JGL Livestock donated the steer and also donated $50,000 to the initiative.

Jacob Feige, Wild Rose 4-H Beef Club won Grand Champion Steer at the Prince Albert Regional 4-H Beef show and sale. The 55 head steer show was judged by Toby Noble. Jacob’s steer weighed 1,319lb and sold for $7.00/lb to Thunder Ridge Farms, Leask.
Hailey Njaa, Weldon 4-H Beef Club won Reserve Grand Champion Steer with a 1,271lb steer selling for $4.00/lb to NAPA Traction, Prince Albert.
Phillips Elected CCA President
Kasey Phillips, Waskatenau, AB was elected president of the Canadian Charolais Association at their board meeting June 18th in Calgary, AB. Shawn Airey, Rivers, MB moved up to 1st Vice-President and Ryan Nesbitt, Nestleton, ON was newly elected to the executive committee as 2nd Vice-President. Mike Elder, Coronach, SK remains on the executive as Past-President after three years in the chair. Jeff Cavers, LaRiviere, MB was elected to the board in the member at large position replacing retiring director Jim Olson, Portage la Prairie, MB. Other board members include Mathieu Palerme, QC; Roger Maloney, ON; Darwin Rosso, SK; Lorne Lakusta & Rod McLeod, AB. Complete details will be in the August issue of the Charolais Banner.
Ben & Darlene Poirier of the former B & M Farms, North Gower both passed away recently. Darlene died on March 27th at the age of 78 and Ben on May 25th at the age of 79. They were very active in the Charolais business in eastern Ontario and Quebec as well as participating in shows and sales across Canada and USA. Starting the herd in 1976, it was dispersed in 2004 in conjuction with Ferme EDL Charolais at Asbestos, QC.
Charolais Win Bow Valley 4-H Show
Logan Jamieson’s Charolais heifer SOS Harlequin (Elder’s Chancellor daughter) won Grand Champion Heifer and Supreme Female at the Bow Valley Beef and Multi Breed 4-H show on May 29th. Logan also took home Grand Champion Steer honors. Sean Stratton and Rhonda Smith purchased the 1,387lb charcross steer for $5.00/lb. Cameron Olsen judged the 17 head show.
Charolais Female Wins District Show
Nevada Murray won Grand Champion Steer at the Coronation and District 4-H Beef Achievement Day. The 52 head steer show was judged by Rob Smith. Nevada’s steer weighed 1641lb and sold for $6.25/lb to Hillside Excavating Inc., Bassano. Her tan steer was also the Consort 4-H Club Grand Champion and the District Rate of Gain Champion with a 4.78/lb a day gain.
Charcross top Knee Hill Valley 4H
Aubrey Fraser’s 1290 lb Charcross steer Harv won Grand Champion Steer out of the 29 steers exhibited at the May 31 Knee Hill Valley 4H show and sale. He was purchased by Steelhaus Technologies Inc., Calgary for $5.75/lb. Harv’s full sister Phoebe was also selected Reserve Champion Heifer by judge Rod McLeod.
