Charolais Two-Year Old Wins Prince Albert 4-H

Owen Beaulac of the Wild Rose 4-H Beef Club won the Charolais Two-Year Old Cow/Calf class and went on to win Champion Two-Year Old Cow/Calf at the Prince Albert (SK) Exhibition Regional Show 4-H Show June 9th, 2019. This Charolais cross cow with heifer calf at side is the heifer that won Champion Charolais heifer at last year’s show.

Charcross Steer Wins Maple Creek 4-H

Will Blakley, Consul, SK won grand champion steer at the District 10 Regional Fair in Maple Creek judged by Scott Bar. The Charcross steer weighed 1,355 lb and sold for $2.45/lb to Braun Ranch, Simmie.

Charcross Heifer Wins Coronation 4-H show

Jaron Letniak of Consort, AB won Grand Champion breeding heifer at the Coronation District 4-H show held June 4th at Consort, AB. Judge was Blake Morton, Craigmyle.

Elder Elected President

Mike Elder, Coronach, SK was elected president of the Canadian Charolais Association at the Annual General Meeting, June 6th in Moncton, NB. Kasey Phillips, Waskateneau, AB moved to 1st Vice-President; Shawn Airey, Rivers, MB is 2nd Vice-President and Darwin Rosso, Moose Jaw, SK is Past President.

Banner hires Fieldman

The Charolais Banner is pleased to announce the hiring of Robbie Chomik from Bruce, AB to work with breeders to promote their genetics and operations. Growing up in the cattle business he and his wife and four children have a commercial herd near where they both grew up. Robbie has been active in his community as a 4-H leader and district president, 8 years as president of the Holden minor hockey association and president of the Bruce Stampede Association.

Esau to Manitoba Agriculture Hall of Fame

Former Charolais breeder Ernie Esau of Ernmore Farms, Elm Creek, MB is being inducted into the Manitoba Agriculture Hall of Fame in a ceremony on June 17th in Winnipeg. We did a breeder profile in the December 2018 Charolais Banner magazine on Ernie. See it online in our magazine archives.

Craig Scott Named CCA GM

Craig Scott of Olds, AB is the new Canadian Charolais Association General Manager. Starting May 15th Craig is no stranger to the Canadian Charolais industry having been a fieldman and partner in the Charolais Banner for the past 20 years. Craig was also a partner in GRP Ltd for many years.
