John Alexander (Jack) Robertson, 87, of Amaranth, MB. died peacefully at home on February 4th with his family. Jack was born December 7th , 1938 in Winnipeg. He spent the early years of his life on the family farm at Lynches Point before moving to Harcus in 1953 where the Robertson family continued to ranch beef cattle and raised mink & fox for fur. Jack was a highly respected horseman. He was one of the first breeders of Paint horses in the 1950’s, showing them successfully both in Canada and the U.S.. Jack trained and competed with western pleasure horses before transitioning to training thoroughbreds’ in the early 70’s. He continued as an Owner/Trainer at Assiniboia Downs for 43 years, winning more than 600 races and earning such achievements as Trainer of the year and Horse of the year. In 1969 Jack bought his first Charolais bull and in 1973 added his first Registered Charolais females and the Bar -J Charolais herd continues as a family operation today. Jack leaves behind many family, friends and a legacy of honesty, integrity and the young people he mentored and set on a path to success.

Katie Kolenosky and her heifer SVY ELSA 550N were slapped Reserve Champion purebred heifer and then went on to be the Reserve Supreme Champion at the junior show at the Heartland Cattleman’s Classic in Stettler, AB. The junior show was judged by Riley Pashulka, Derwent.

KG SOS Keystone Ice 148N a January 1st son of RBM Keystone H41
was selected as Grand Champion Single Bull. Exhibited by KG Land & Cattle, Gadsby and Springside Cattle Co, Airdrie. Keystone Ice also won Reserve Champion Pair of Bulls alongside KG Restart 152N a January 22nd son of SOS Kickstart Pld 825K. Exhibited by KG Land & Cattle. The Heartland Cattlemen’s Classic was held January 30th through February 1st, 2026 in Stettler, AB. The judges for the show were Ashley Anderson, Didsbury, Byron Johnson, Amisk and Craig Ference, Kirriemuir.
